该剧根据已故的英籍畅销作家Michael Dibdin关于Zen警探的故事改编而成。整部剧在意大利取景拍摄，但全剧使用英语对白。Rufus Sewell出演同名男主角罗马警探Aurelio Zen，他是小镇里唯一诚实可靠的警察。蓄谋已久的政客、不堪重负的长官、复仇心切的黑帮，让一切变得复杂难测。第一季共三集，分别根据《Vendetta》、《Cabal》以及《Ratking》三部小说改编而成。 该剧融合了意大利的迷人风情以及Dibdin小说中惊悚的调查、风趣幽默、温暖、俊男靓女等吸引人的特点，是一部与众不同的罪案剧。
