本片是由小說《嬲》改編，講述台南縣白河鎮（今台南市白河區）山區的地主阿地伯多年前買來養子趙春生，後來為他娶了媳婦。春生不久當兵去了，翁媳二人居於一屋。春生回來後發現養父與妻子的關係，十分憤怒，妻子也深受阿地的困擾。這一三角關係最終釀成悲劇。
At the end of World War II, Ah-Dee, who fought under Japanese command, returns to the mountains of central Taiwan and resumes his activities as a bamboo farmer. Traumatized by the war, he is unable to marry but adopts a son named Spring, and later on, a young woman, Tangerine, for her to become his wife. But when Spring must leave for military service, Ah Dee's long repressed desires reappear : he falls madly in love with his daughter-in-law...
