梅本印刷是一家小型印刷厂，靠著印刷大型超市上底屋的传单维持生存。可是某天，突然传来上底屋即将倒闭的消息，这令梅本印刷厂的人们慌张不已。原本月底应收的壹仟万元票据，要是无法兑现，连锁倒闭将不可避免。梅本印刷厂社长梅本省介，仰赖长久的信赖关系，请求上底屋会长务必兑现应付票据，却被断然拒绝了。另一方面，社长之妻房江，也开始被作為借款保证人的弟弟夫妻二人责难。此时的省介，又被律师劝告最好宣布破產，他无疑被逼到了绝望的深渊前。就在此时，他遇到了名為锹田的无业男人，和被称作“村长”的流浪汉领导者……
Follows the lives of a group of homeless people in Japan who run into a man who nearly commits suicide and decide to help him out of his financial troubles. Using their various ingenious resources they embark on a complex scheme to blackmail a crooked businessman, whose bankruptcy claim has put people out of work.
