冬冬（阿部力）诞生并被抛弃于北京的某间公厕，今已长到18岁的他为了带大他的身患重病的婆婆漫游世界去找寻一种奇异灵药。从北京到香港、釜山、印度、纽约，随着寻药记的上演，浪漫杀手（李灿森）、一头金发的韩国人（张赫）、来自深海的奇女子、讲广东话的印度人等等各式奇怪人物逐次出场，与他发生碰撞，他们和冬冬一样，所做只为拯救所爱的人。 而他们自己灵魂的孤独、无助与卑微，经过某些古老文化的滋润，似乎重又焕发了生机，因此可说，周游世界为拯救所爱的人努力的过程，亦是他们寻找自己的生命意义的过程。
